SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Wednesday said the government as part of a graded plan would mull over strict measures in case the daily Covid-19 caseload continued to rise in the valley.

Div Com urged people to adopt COVID-appropriate behavior ‘conscientiously’, in view of the sudden increase in the number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir for the last few days.

“Situation so far is under control and there is nothing to worry about, yes if the caseload continues to rise we will surely consider strict measures as part of the graded plan. We are monitoring the situation. There are seasonal fluctuations in it as well,” Div Com told the media on the sidelines of an official function.

Bidhuri asked people to go for immediate testing and follow COVID appropriate behavior.

When asked about the investigation into Gujarat Conman case, Div Com said “case is under investigation at the moment and I cannot share anything.”

Regarding the ongoing works under the Srinagar Smart City project, Bidhuri said the situation would be better on the ground once the Right Of Way (ROW) is cleared.

“We had initially set an April 15 deadline and then 20 more days were added for footpath sides, beautification, painting, and cycle tracks. The weather is not conducive for blacktopping. As soon as the weather improves, blacktopping will be done. The situation will be better on the ground once the Right Of Way is cleared,” he said.

Meanwhile Director Health, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather asked people to take preventive measures to avoid fresh spread of Covid-19.

He said cases have slightly increased but there is no need to panic as the UT administration has played a praiseworthy role during previous waves.

Dr Rather said the department has issued circulars to all Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents of all hospitals to increase the Covid testing rate amid a spike in the number of cases.

“Cases have slightly increased and there is a mixture of H3N2 influenza and Covid-19, but we are alert and there is no need to panic. If symptoms are developed, a patient needs to go for testing and get immediately isolated,” Dr Mushtaq told reporters.
