3 drug-peddlers held with contraband substances

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug-peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam and Shopian districts and recovered huge quantities of contraband substances from their possession, officials said Friday.

They said in Baramulla, a police party during patrolling at Lalpora Kunzer apprehended a suspicious person carrying a polythene bag. On checking, 2 kgs of grinded cannabis leaves were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station.

In Kulgam, acting on specific information, police intercepted one Shabroz Ahmad Itoo, son of Abdul Ahad Itoo of Chawalgam at a checkpoint at Chawalgam Chowk and recovered 3.5 kgs of grinded cannabis from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station.

In Shopian, a police intercepted a vehicle (JK22C-1395) driven by Basharat Hussain Shah, son of Saif-ul-lah Shah of Kharwara Shopian and recovered 4.5 kgs of crushed poppy straw, 4 kgs of cannabis powder, and 5 grams of heroin from his possession. Besides, a weighing machine and grinder was also recovered from the vehicle. The drug-peddler has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
