10 drug-peddlers held with contraband substances

Srinagar: Police on Monday said it has arrested ten drug-peddlers across Kashmir and recovered a huge cache of contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.

In Pulwama, Afaq Ahmad Malik, son of Bashir Ahmad Malik, resident of Chatapora Pulwama, and Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hussain Bhat of Gangoo, were arrested and 20 bottles of codiene phosphate were recovered from their possession, police said. Their motorcycle (JK04G-3894) has also been seized.

At Gangoo Crossing, one Mehmood Ali, son of Ali Mohammad Mir of Hanji Khula Gangoo Pulwama was arrested with 70 grams of cannabis and 2.4 kgs of cannabis powder. Another drug-peddler Tariq Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam Hassan Najar of Rajpora was arrested with 10 bottles of codeine phosphate, police said.

In Baramulla, Tajamul Farooq Dar, son of Farooq Ahmad of ChandilooraTangmarg, was arrested with 40 grams of cannabis at a checkpoint established at Entry Point Gulmarg.

One Shahnawaz Mir, son of Mutwali Mir of Daragutliyan Uri was arrested at Gingal Uri with 50 grams of cannabis.

In Kulgam, a drug-peddler Abdul Rashid Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar of Shamsipora, Qaimoh was held from Adigan village with 25 Kgs of Ganja, police said.

In Handwara, two drug-peddlers — Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid of Handwara, and Hilal Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Amin of BehramporaRafiabad, were arrested at Rasripora, and 480 grams of cannabis and 385 Tapentadol (banned) tablets were recovered from their possession, police said.

Another drug-peddler identified as Zubair Bashir Wani alias Umar, son of Bashir Ahmad of TulwariLangate was arrested and 110 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

All the arrested drug-peddlers were shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigations have been initiated, police said.
