As per the orders issued today, the said properties shall not be transferred for any other use undertaken on it without the permission of the District Magistrate, the competent authority under the NDPS Act, in Shopian.

The press release said that the accused whose properties were seized were given a “reasonable time period” to prove credentials and produce the requisite documents that substantiate that the seized properties are legal.

The press release informed that the seized properties include “illegally acquired buildings and land from the proceeds of the narcotics trade”.

“The properties were purchased from ill-gotten money of drug-trafficking within the last six years in the name of accused persons as well as in the name of their kith and kin,” it said.

The press release also informed that the district administration has issued notices to several persons involved in drug trafficking in the recent past and asked all of them to show cause and the source of means of the acquisition of the properties.
