Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said it has arrested five drug-peddlers across Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, one Abdul Kareem Lone, son of Mohammad Akbar Lone of Hajam Mohalla Palhallan was arrested during a raid on his house, police said, adding 15.8 kgs of poppy straw-like substance was also recovered from the said house.

Another drug-peddler Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh of Sangri Kanlibagh Baramulla, was arrested at a checkpoint in Goshbug Pattan with 70 grams of cannabis-like substance, police said.

One Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Khaliq Sheikh of Batpora Sopore, was arrested at Chakrodi Khan crossing with 12 bottles of Codeine Phosphate.

In Budgam, at Alamdar colony crossing, 90 grams of cannabis sticks wrapped in maize cob cover and another 1.6 kgs cannabis-like powder concealed in nylon bag were recovered from the possessionof Gowhar Ahmad Parra, son of Ghulam Ahmad Parra, resident of Sarban Charar-e-Sharief.

In Kulgam, one Mohammad Altaf Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir of Watigam was arrested at Yaroo Watigam Crossing with 112 grams of cannabis-like substance, police said, adding that cases have been registered in all these instances and further investigations are on.
