Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight drug peddlers across Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party arrested a notorious woman drug peddler identified as Rubeena Begum, wife of Jahangir Ahmad of Chandanwari Uri. During the search, 10 grams of brown sugar was recovered from her possession.

In Pulwama, a police party intercepted a load carrier number (JK13G-7307) and recovered 5 grams of brown sugar and 350 grams of ‘Charas’ (cannabis) from the possession of four persons including a woman traveling in it. They have been identified as Tauseef Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai of Chotipora Pulwama; Junaid Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik of Rangmulla Pulwama; Tahir Ahmad Joo, son of Nazir Ahmad Joo of Khonmoh, and Mst Suraya Jeelani, daughter of Ghulam Jeelani Shah of Baghat Barzulla, at present Rawalpora Sgr.

In Kulgam, a drug-peddler identified as Ghulam Nabi Lone, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Rambhama was arrested after 11 kgs of poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession.

In another action, a police party intercepted a vehicle (JK03E-3141) at Batingoo Kundand recovered 165 grams of cannabis from its driver Ghulam Nabi Wagay, son of Ghulam Ahmad Wagay of Gandipora, Devsar.

In Handwara, police arrested a drug-peddler identified as Muzafar Ahmad Dentu, son of Abdul Aziz of Malbagh. During the search, 1.5 kgs of cannabis was recovered from his possession, police said, adding cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated in all these cases.
