Srinagar: Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Monday urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to ‘exempt from eviction’ those people who have constructed hotels and lodges on small patches of the state land.

The biz body said those hoteliers who have encroached upon huge tracts of government land anywhere in the UT be evicted so that said land is used for public good.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, CCI president, Tariq Ghani also said that they have never been averse to outside businesses setting up their ventures in J&K but the government should prioritize locals for setting up business enterprises.

“I would like to make it clear that no hotelier is ready to take possession of land free of cost. In fact we want the government to identify those having encroached huge tracts of land so that they are evicted. We also appeal to the Lieutenant Governor to exempt on humanitarian grounds those hoteliers who have erected structures on small patches of land,” Ghani said.

He said hundreds of educated youth would lose their jobs in Kashmir in case the government evicts small hoteliers.
