Div training prog on ‘promotion of vegetables, exotic vegetables’ held at Agri Complex Lalmandi

SRINAGAR: Owing to special agro-climatic conditions (Himalayan conditions) of the region there is vast potential for the promotion of exotic as well as traditional vegetable sector and under holistic development of Agriculture and allied sectors a special focus has been shifted towards this field.

These views were expressed by Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal while delivering a special lecture on ‘promotion of vegetable/exotic vegetables under open and hi-tech protected cultivation’ in a divisional level training programme held at Lalmandi, Srinagar.

The Director Agriculture said that the vegetable sector has huge scope in the Valley and could generate a large number of employment opportunities. He said that under the holistic document, a special programme has been designed for this purpose so that maximum opportunities in this sector could be explored.

Iqbal asked the officers of different allied departments to work in close coordination so that the desired results could be achieved under all the projects of the Holistic Document.

Director Agriculture said that with the introduction of more exotic vegetables to our main vegetable menu we are actually endeavouring to boost the agri-economy of the region. “We can grow almost all the vegetables grown in Europe and the UK and earn good prices for our produce at the national and international levels,” he further added.

The training programme was attended by Joint Director (Ext.) Mohammad Syed Peer, Joint Director (Inputs) Farooq Ahmad Bhat, Joint Director (Mushroom and Apiculture) Tabassum Naz, and other officers of Agriculture and allied departments.
