My Youth My Pride: J&K Judokas bag gold medals, make way to National team

JAMMU: Five deaf Judokas from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have brought home five gold medals from the 25th senior deaf national sports championship cum selection trial for the Asia Pacific Deaf Judo Championship, which was held at the Emerald International School in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, from January 10-14.

The medalist Judokas include Shikha Kumari in the under 48 kg category, Rakhshinda Mehak in the above 78 kg category, Rakesh Singh in the under 60 kg category, Vishal Khajuria in the under 66 kg category, and Nabeel Ahmad Dar in the under 73 kg category.

Out of the ten Judokas selected to represent India in the Asia Pacific Deaf Championships 2023-24 to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, five Judokas (both women and men) have been selected from J&K. All the selected Judokas are trainees of RCC Judo center MA stadium Jammu since 2012.

Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, congratulated the medalists and those selected for the national team, saying, “You have made us incredibly proud with your achievements. I have no doubt that our Judokas on the national team will give it their all in the coming competition.”

The Secretary also announced that special coaching and training camps will be conducted this year to train players and that the focus will be on the mental aspect of the game as well.
