SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA), Department of Science & Technology, today conducted an awareness programme to sensitize the students regarding Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plants for the residential sector and the use of solar energy for powering irrigation pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme at Govt. Women Polytechnic (GWP), Bemina Bypass here.
Commissioner Secretary Science & Technology, Saurabh Bhagat, inaugurated the event.
Athar Aamir Khan, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Haris Ahmad Handoo, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority(SDA), Dr. P.R. Dhar, CEO, JAKED and Dr. Shafqat Ara, Principal, Govt. Women Polytechnic officers from JAKEDA, SMC, KPDCL, SDA, Srinagar Smart City Limited, and other line departments attended the programme.
Commissioner Secretary apprised the officers and students about various benefits/incentives being extended by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under PM-KUSUM and Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant scheme.
Saurabh Bhagat informed about the Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Scheme under which a collective subsidy of 65% shall be provided to the Domestic Consumers of DISCOMs for installation of Rooftop Solar Plants for offsetting their electricity bills under the Net-Metering mechanism.
Commissioner Secretary also instructed the Officers of SMC and SDA to make the installation of Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant mandatory in upcoming buildings and townships.
An interactive session was also held with the students, wherein their concerns and queries about the schemes were also addressed.
Later, pamphlets containing all the related information about Solar Pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme and Rooftop Solar Scheme like prices, subsidy amount, beneficiary share, and contact numbers of district nodal persons were distributed among the students and the officers for the popularization of the scheme.
