Srinagar: Police on Thursday said it has arrested a drug peddler in Bandipora and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
Acting on specific information regarding the movement of drug peddlers near Bagh Bandipora, a police party intercepted two suspicious persons. While one of the peddlers was arrested his woman accomplice managed to flee but left her bag on the road, a police spokesman informed.
During the search, police said 450 grams of cannabis powder was recovered from the bag and another 500 grams along with cash of Rs 1400 from the possession of the arrested person, who has been identified as Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shahbaz Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora, while efforts are on to nab the woman peddler who managed to escape, police said.
