Srinagar The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, on Monday asked people to protect democratic spaces to halt the march of political and democratic disenfranchisement set in motion on August 05, 2019 by forces inimical to J&K’s unique identity and status.

This he, according to the NC spokesperson, said while addressing a worker’s meeting of Halqa Riyazat Taing in Khanyar constituency. Among others, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, Block President Bashir Ahmed Wani Halwai, Vice Block President Abdul Majeed Wani, and Youth Block President Abid Wani were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the workers, Sagar said, “There is a perception on the ground that the para-dropped administration has become more unaccountable and the Central government’s claim to give Kashmir a corruption-free administration and good governance was simply rhetoric.”

Holding the incumbent administration responsible for price rise, scathing unemployment, administrative inertia, and development deficit, Sagar said, “Government is busy swelling its coffers, but when it comes to passing on the benefits to the poor, it sidesteps its responsibility. Despite charging hefty amounts from consumers, the rampant erratic power supply and unscheduled cuts is taking a toll on people during the ongoing winter season. The administration is further deepening the troubles of people by providing inferior-quality of rice and wheat at FCSCA ration stores. There is no accountability on the ground.”

He asked the workers to work in tandem to ensure that the party’s position, vision, and mission reach every household.
