Baramulla: Police and Army recovered four packets of heroin worth crores at Hathlanga Uri area of Baramulla district, police said Sunday.

Giving details, a police spokesperson said that police along with Army (3 Rajput Unit) during routine joint naka checking at AD Post intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee away from the spot but was apprehended.

During the search, four packets of heroin-like substance worth crores were recovered from his possession, the spokesperson said.

He identified the arrested person as Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Afzal Bhat, resident of Sahoora Uri.

Accordingly, a case (FIR No. 121/2022) under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Uri and further investigation initiated, police said.

Army sources said that as per the preliminary investigation, the consignment of heroin was smuggled from Pakistan through the Line of Control (LoC) and handed over to the local drug traffickers. Sources said that the consignment was supposed to be dispatched outside Jammu and Kashmir to sell the same in the market.

People of Uri subdivision once again hailed the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police particularly SDPO Junaid Wali and Army’s 3 Rajput and vouched to be always ready to support police to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society.

It may be mentioned here that in the month of February 2022, a huge Narco-Terror module was busted by arresting two people along with contraband worth Rupees 18 Crore in Dachi Uri.

On May 20, 2022 Police arrested a Village-Level Worker (VLW) of Rural Development Department along with over 10 kilograms of heroin worth crores of rupees in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police also said it has arrested five drug peddlers and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

In Awantipora, a police party during naka checking at village Munpora Androosa intercepted a truck (PB19H-0454) with three persons on board. During the search, 190 kgs of poppy straw concealed in 22 apple boxes were recovered from the said vehicle. Among the three accused persons, two accused identified as Balraj Singh, son of Rugvinder Singh, resident of Jamalpora Leeli Ludhiana Punjab, and Danish Gaffar, son of Abdul Gaffar Ganie of Pahoo Pulwama, have been arrested, while the third accused person managed to escape from the spot.

Police said efforts are on to arrest him while the vehicle has also been seized.

In Sopore, a police party during patrolling in Shalpora area arrested three suspected persons who tried to escape but were apprehended. During the search, 12 bottles of codeine were recovered from their possession.

They have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Shah alias Bedaan, son of Muhammad Yousuf Shah; Nasir Ahmad Shah alias Anta, son of Muhammad Yousuf Shah, both residents of Neharpora Sopore, and Danish Yousuf Bhat, son of Muhammad Yousuf Bhat, resident of Shalimar Colony Sopore. They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
