Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal arrested two notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession, officials said.

A police party arrested two notorious drug peddlers at a checkpoint established at Tehsilbagh Khranihama. The arrested peddlers were identified as Aqib Nazir Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, and Shamim Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi, both residents of Tullamulla Ganderbal. During the search, 700 grams of ‘Bhung Patri’ was recovered from their possession, a police spokesperson said.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Lar and an investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, a suspected drug peddler was arrested after 90 grams of cannabis was recovered from him in Kishtwar district on Tuesday, police said.

During extensive checking of vehicles and pedestrians, a police party noticed suspicious movement of a pedestrian who was trying to escape from Zalla area, it said.

Tanveer Ahmed was held and a checking of him led to the recovery of the cannabis, police said.

A case was registered against him at Chatroo Police Station.
