Dir Agri inaugurates Kisan Mela, Farmer training prog at Dooru

ANANTNAG: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today inaugurated a Kisan mela cum Farmer training program under Jan Abhiyan and Back to Village-4, at Dooru Anantnag.

Speaking on the occasion, Director highlighted the importance of organizing such programmes and said that for the development of the agriculture sector all the stakeholders including farmers, agriculture, and allied wings must play their roles in a coordinated manner.

He said, “we have come a long way so far as the production and productivity of different agriculture crops is concerned.”

He reiterated the departments commitment to ensuring the economic security of farmers. He said with the increasing population and decrease in the available land resources and climate change, the biggest challenge in front of agriculture is to feed the ever-increasing population and to cope with the universal phenomenon of climate change.

Director asked the participants to ensure that soil health is maintained. While talking about the recently started Rabi campaign, he said that the department is ensuring to ensure that maximum area could be brought under different Rabi crops.

Director asked the farmers to be the ambassadors of the department and propagate the seamless extension of technology gained from the awareness programs to the fellow farmers in their vicinity for bringing long-term and revolutionary changes in the field of agriculture.

During the event, many stalls were installed exhibiting various products related to agriculture and allied sectors bedsides projecting various success stories.

The Mela was attended by a large number of farmers, representatives from Panchayat Raj Institutions, and Officers of the Department.

Earlier, Director kick-started the distribution of onion seedlings among the farmers at Kitchen garden Bijbehara.

Later, the Director visited Tangpava Achhabal and took stock of the various activities under the national mission on edible oils.
