5 drug-peddlers arrested: Police

Srinagar: Five drug-peddlers were arrested in Pulwama and Budgam and contraband substances recovered from their possession, police said Saturday.

In Pulwama, a police party intercepted a car (JK01N-4285) at Kandizal crossing and recovered 5.5 kgs of poppy straw from it. Three persons travelling in the car were arrested. They were identified as Jan Mohammad Wani, son of Abdul Gani Wani of Loolipora Nehama Kakapora; Tahir Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik, and Tajamul Hussain, son of Mohammad Ibrahim, both residents of Balhama Srinagar.

Acting on specific information police raided the residential house of one Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat of Kadlabal Kakapora and recovered 15 bottles of codeine there, police spokesman said. He said Bhat was also arrested on the spot.

In Budgam, a police party intercepted a suspicious person near Qamiru crossing and recovered 1.2 kgs of charas (Cannabis) -like substance from his possession. He has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Malik alias Sahil, son of Ghulam Nabi Malik of Waragam Budgam.

All the arrested drug-peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered against them, spokesman said.
