KU organises Para Cricket Match to mark World White Cane Day

Srinagar: Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer Khan on Thursday inaugurated a Para Cricket Match organised in connection with the World White Cane Day, celebrated annually across the world to raise awareness about people carrying a white cane.

The 16-over match, played between the students from the varsity’s teaching departments and their counterparts from the affiliated colleges, was organised by the Special Cell of the Department of Students’ Welfare with the support of Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES).

Interacting with the student participants in the University sports ground, Prof Nilofer urged the specially-abled students to come forward and participate in different indoor and outdoor sports activities being organised by the University.

Assuring her full support to specially-abled students in their academic and extracurricular activities, the Vice-Chancellor asked for a detailed roadmap from the Department of Students’ Welfare on engagement of specially-abled students and research scholars in different extracurricular activities.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Aneesa Shafi, Coordinator DPES Dr Mussavir Ahmad, besides officials of the DPES and DSW.

Complimenting the Dean Students Welfare and her team, Coordinator DPES and Coordinator Special Cell DSW Mr Shaheel Mohammad for organising the Para Cricket Match, Prof Nilofer further assured that all facilities shall be put in place to ensure that specially-abled students have a comfortable stay in the campus while pursuing their studies.

The participating students appreciated the Special Cell for organising different programmes for their welfare.
