‘My Youth My Pride’: Wheelchair Basketball camp commences in Kashmir

Srinagar: Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) is organizing Training and Selection of the Indian Wheelchair Women Team from 6th October to 1st November 2022 and the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) has teamed up with J&K Sports Council to host the event.

16 Female wheelchair players selected by WBFI from different states of India including 2 women players from J&K will be part of the Camp. Besides, two national coaches including renowned basketball coach George will impart training to the players.

Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul presided over the inaugural function as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Sports Council said that she was overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm of the participants in spite of physical shortcomings they are chasing their dreams and the government shall provide all possible help to them in realizing their potential and fulfilling their dreams.

Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool, President VMS presented the welcome address while Coach George presented a vote of thanks for the cooperation extended by authorities to VMS Management for the smooth conduct of this event.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Shifa while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of J&K Sports Council and VMS in promoting sports activities for special athletes.

The training and selection process shall continue at the multipurpose indoor hall Shadipora Bandipora for twenty-five days.

In the meantime, J&K Sports Council in collaboration with J&K Yogasana Sports Association is organizing a UT Level Yogasana Sports Championship in Sher-I Kashmir Indoor Stadium Srinagar. 15 Districts of the UT are participating in the two-day event which shall culminate tomorrow.

More than 370 athletes and 50 officials including judges from other districts and the Sports Authority of India will officiate and monitor the event.
