Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that they have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession in Awantipora area.
A police party during naka checking near Panzgam crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee away from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, police spokesman said.
He said during the search, police recovered 17 kgs of cannabis powder concealed in three nylon bags from his possession.
The person identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Ashan Dar, resident PanzgamAwantipora, has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, spokesman said.
He said a case (FIR No. 220/2022) under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
