Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 22 new Covid cases on Thursday, taking the cumulative infection tally to 4,79,137, an official said.

Sixteen cases were reported from Kashmir and six from Jammu division, he said.

In Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 12 cases, Pulwama reported two cases, Budgam and Kupwara reported one case each while no other district reported any fresh cases today.

Similarly, in Jammu division, Doda reported three cases and Jammu, Samba and Kathua reported one case each even as no other district reported any fresh cases today.

The death toll due to the coronavirus stands at 4,785 as no fresh death was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.

So far the viral infection has claimed 4785 lives in J&K, including 2,433 in Kashmir division and 2,352 in Jammu division.

Currently there are 136 active cases of the disease — 86 in Kashmir and 50 in Jammu division — while the number of recoveries has reached 4,74,216, he said, adding 19 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals including 17 from Kashmir division and two from Jammu division in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

He also said 3,916 doses of Covid vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,45,79,475.

Meanwhile India’s COVID-19 case tally increased by 4,272 in a day to reach 4,45,83,360, while active cases have declined to 40,750 according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll has reached 5,28,611 with 27 more deaths, including 16 fatalities reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Active cases comprise 0.09 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.72 percent, the health ministry said.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.35 percent while the weekly positivity rate was 1.51 percent.

Active Covid cases declined by 229 in a day while the number of people who recuperated from the disease increased to 4,40,13,999. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 218.17 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 inoculation drive.

The 11 fatalities reported in 24 hours include three from Maharashtra and two each from Bihar and West Bengal. Sixteen deaths have been reconciled by Kerala.
