 J&K logs 8 new Covid cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday registered eight fresh COVID-19 cases that pushed its infection tally to 4,79,084, officials here said.

No fresh fatalities due to the viral disease were reported. The death toll stands at 4,785, they said; so far the viral infection has claimed 2,433 lives in Kashmir and 2,352 in Jammu division.

Of the fresh cases, one was reported from Reasi district in Jammu division and seven from the Kashmir Valley, the officials said, adding that in Kashmir, all seven cases were recorded in Srinagar district.

Currently there are 144 active COVID-19 cases in the union territory — 93 in Kashmir and 51 in Jammu division. So far, 4,74,155 people have recovered from the disease, they said. This also includes 23 persons — 19 from Kashmir and four from Jammu division — who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

Officials said 4,351 doses of COVID vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,45,65,781.

Active Covid cases decline to 43,415

With 4,129 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,45,72,243, while the active cases declined to 43,415, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll climbed to 5,28,530 with 20 fatalities, including 13 fatalities reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The active cases comprise 0.10 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.72 percent, the health ministry said.

A decline of 579 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.51 percent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.61 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,40,00,298, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry,  217.686 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The seven fatalities reported in the last 24 hours include two each from Maharashtra and Nagaland and one each from Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal.
