Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 16 fresh positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours which took its cumulative infection tally to 4,79,062, officials said Saturday.

They said while nine new cases were reported from Jammu division, Kashmir accounted for seven fresh cases.

In Kashmir division, Srinagar reported five cases, Kupwara reported and Kulgam reported one case each. No other district reported any fresh cases today.

In Jammu division, Jammu district reported four cases, Kathua two, Udhampur, Rajouri and Doda reported one fresh case each.

Moreover, 21 more patients were discharged from various hospitals, including 15 from Kashmir and six from Jammu division in the last 24 hours after their recuperation, they said.

Officials said 4,986 doses of COVID vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,45,60,887.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus, currently there are 168 active positive cases in J&K — 117 in Kashmir and 51 in Jammu Division. So far cumulatively 4,74,109 infected persons have recovered, and 4,785 have died – 2,433 in Kashmir division and 2,352 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile With 4,912 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of cases rose to 4,45,63,337, while the active cases declined to 44,436, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,28,487 with 38 fatalities, which include 19 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The 19 fatalities reported in 24 hours include two each from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana and Karnataka.

The active cases comprise 0.10 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.71 percent, the health ministry said.

A decline of 845 cases has been recorded in the active caseload in 24 hours, it said.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.62 percent while the weekly positivity rate was 1.69 percent, it mentioned.

The number of recoveries climbed to 4,39,90,414, while the case fatality rate was 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 217.41 crore doses of vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
