Div Com asks PMAY Urban beneficiaries to start work of house before Oct 15, or forfeit chance

Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole Saturday asked the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to start work of house before October 15, or forfeit the chance of availing its benefits.

According to an official press release, Div Com today convened a meeting to review the progress of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban across all the districts of Kashmir division.

While reviewing the present status and progress achieved by the districts regarding the completion of construction of houses under PMAY, Urban, the Div Com directed Deputy Commissioners to replace the reluctant registered beneficiaries who did not initiate work despite consuming reasonable time.

He asked DCs to register new eligible persons but the sanctioned figure for the district shall remain the same.

He further directed to recover the disbursed money from bogus beneficiaries who were not eligible under the rules of the scheme.

Moreover, he emphasized on the provision of mobilization advance to the beneficiaries who face financial issues to start construction and intimate them regarding interest-free loan being provided by banks for starting the work on construction of houses to become eligible for other installments provided by the government to beneficiaries under the scheme.

“PMAY Urban beneficiaries shall start work on the house before October 15, otherwise it will be cancelled and a chance will be given to the new beneficiary,” Div Com said.

Besides, Div Com clarified that there should not be any ambiguity between the urban and rural area regarding identification of beneficiaries under PMAY Urban.

He directed officers of municipalities to conduct visits to sites and get geo-tagged photos of the progress.

He instructed officers to create awareness among the people for registration of new beneficiaries as replacement to reluctant ones.

Also, Div Com instructed for issuance of due installment by October 30 to beneficiaries and completion of under construction houses by November 30, the press release said.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners, Director ULB, officers of SMC, Housing Board, Municipal Committees, Pahalgam Development Authority and others.
