‘My Youth My Pride’: Sports activities overshadow early morning Jammu shower

JAMMU: A number of sports activities were organized in the Jammu division today with the main attraction being the historic M A Stadium where events in Cricket and Athletics started today.

The event was scheduled to be held early in the morning but rain gods delayed the start. With the improvement in weather by afternoon, participants along with their families and friends flocked to the venue.

Ranjit Kalra, a member of the J&K Sports Council presided over the function as chief guest and declared the event open in front of a huge gathering. Terming the My Youth My Pride initiative as a key factor in changing the sports landscape of the union territory of J&K, Kalra said that with the advent of the programme Sports Council has expanded its reach and ensured inclusive growth of all athletes irrespective of the niche they belong to.

Ranjit Kalra said that under the leadership of the dynamic secretary, J&K Sports Council is scaling new heights each new day.

Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officer while interacting with participants shed light on the ill effects of substance abuse on the current generation and how it is posing a serious threat to the welfare of the J&K and country at large.

Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu also encouraged participants and said that every youth of the UT J&K should take an active part in games and sports for overall personality development as sports develops teamwork and leadership quality among the individual.

In the meantime, a Badminton Championship also kickstarted in the Samba Indoor Stadium today in which more than 100 players comprising boys and girls are participating. Keshav Dutt DDC Chairman presided over the function as the chief guest. While interacting with the players he assured them of all the possible help in realizing their potential.

A 3-day UT level Powerlifting Championship organized by All J&K UT Powerlifting Association in coordination with J&K Sports Council also got underway in Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu today.

The championship played over three days will conclude tomorrow in which more than 200 players comprising both men and women from five districts of J&K will participate.

Poornima Sharma Deputy Mayor, of Jammu Municipal Corporation, presided over the function as the chief guest and declared the championship open in presence of Ashok Singh Jamwal, Sports Officer Jammu along with concerned association office bearers, participants, and spectators. The participants showcasing their talent in the competition shall be fielded by the J&K team for participation in the Senior National Championship 2022.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that we should be thankful to the government for its commendable initiative to promote games at the grassroots level by organizing sports events under the My Youth My Pride initiative of the Sports Council which promotes games and sports even I’m the far-flung areas of the union territory to rope in more and more youth in the initiative.
