General Lok Adalat held at Sgr, Gbl, Kup, B’pora

SRINAGAR: The General Lok Adalats were today held across all districts of Kashmir under the directions of JK Legal Services Authority, by the respective District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), for amicable settlement of cases of different natures.

The matters placed before the benches include civil, matrimonial, maintenance, domestic violence, recovery of money or loan, Motor accident compensation, revenue, criminal compoundable and cheque bounce cases, etc for settlement.

In Srinagar, General Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Jawad Ahmad, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar.

A total of Nine Benches were constituted which took up 6,435 cases, out of which 6,290 cases were settled amicably and an amount of Rs 1, 45, 92,788 was realized.

In Ganderbal, the DLSA Ganderbal in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ganderbal organized Lok-Adalat under the Chairmanship of Jeema Bashir, Chairperson DLSA Ganderbal.

On the occasion, three benches were constituted for the amicable settlement of cases.

Overall 247 cases were taken up for settlement out of which 130 cases were amicably settled/compromised on the spot. Rs 7,29,263 was awarded as Bank recovery and under 138 NI Act Cases. Rs.26850 was recovered as a fine for violations under different statutes, and Rs 27,783 was awarded in public utility service cases.

In Kupwara, a total of eight benches were constituted by chairman DLSA, Tasleem Arief, (Pr District and Sessions Judge Kupwara) for taking up a total of 1884 cases during the general Lok Adalat.

Out of the total cases taken up, 917 cases of various natures were settled on the spot by amicable means with the intervention of benches and participating advocates which resulted in the settlement of Rs. 31,04,000 worth of claims/suits/applications.

Various applications were accepted by the PDD Department in terms of the new amnesty scheme launched by the Govt.

In Bandipora, the DLSA Bandipora organized General Lok Adalat in the District Court Complex under the Chairmanship of DLSA Bandipora (Pr. District & Sessions Judge Bandipora) Mohammad Ibrahim Wani.

A total of 323 Cases were taken up in the said Lok Adalat, out of which 249 Cases were settled amicably with a settlement amount of Rs. 4,21, 250.
