35 new COVID-19 cases reported in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 35 fresh Covid cases on Wednesday, taking the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,78,841, an official said here.

While 22 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, 13 cases were reported from Jammu division, the official said.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar and Budgam reported nine cases each, Anantnag reported two cases, Kupwara and Kulgam reported one case each, while no other district reported any fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported nine cases, Kishtwar two, Udhampur, Rajouri, and Poonch one case each.

The death toll due to the virus was 4,784 as no fresh death was reported from the union territory, he said. So far the infection has claimed 2,433 lives in Kashmir division and 2,351 in Jammu division.

Currently there are 297 active cases of the disease in the union territory — 184 in Kashmir and 113 in Jammu division — while the number of recoveries has reached 4,73,760, the officials said. This also includes 64 COVID-19 patients, including 57 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu division, who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

The official said so far 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been recorded in J&K.

They also said 13,175 doses of COVID vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,44,83,967.

Active Covid cases in country decline to 45,749

India logged 5,108 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,10,057, while the active cases dipped to 45,749, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The death toll climbed to 52,82,16 with 19 fatalities, which includes 12 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.10 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.71 percent, the ministry said.

The daily positivity rate stood at 1.44 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.70 percent.

A total of 89.02 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far and 3,55,231 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

As many as 215.67 crore total vaccine doses, including 94.57 crore second dose and 18.70 crore precaution doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. A total of 19,25,881 doses were administered in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.
