BUDGAM: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, S F Hamid today called for massive youth participation in sports-related activities for their overall personality development.
The DC said this, after declaring Annual Inter-Zonal District Level Athletic Meet Girls open at Sports Stadium Budgam.
Competitions in different athletic disciplines were held during the event organised by District Youth Services and Sports Office Budgam. As many as 300 participants from different Zones of District Budgam participated.
Earlier, DC accompanied by Gurmukh Singh Dutta DYSSO Budgam, DIO Budgam, other field staff and participants took a pledge against drugs under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Speaking on the occasion, DC lauded YSS Budgam for conducting a series of sports events in almost all disciplines to promote sports culture among the students in Budgam.
He also encouraged the participants to their active participation and said sports help both the physical and mental development of the participant.
The DC said that special focus is being given to the infrastructure development and promotion of sports in the district.
He urged the youth to take an active part in sports activities as a remedy to keep themselves away from drug abuse and other unhealthy activities.
In the felicitation ceremony, the winners and runner-up teams were awarded medals, trophies, and certificates.
