Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 137 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the infection tally to 4,78,220 in the Union Territory, officials said.

The death toll from the pandemic remained unchanged at 4,782 as no new fatality due to the disease was reported, they said. So far the disease has claimed 4,782 lives in J&K; while 2,432 persons have died in Kashmir, 2,350 have succumbed in Jammu division.

Of the new cases reported today, 109 were reported in Kashmir and 28 in Jammu division.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 39 cases, Budgam 22 cases, Baramulla reported 18 cases, Kulgam reported 14 cases, Pulwama reported seven cases, Kupwara reported four cases, Bandipora and Ganderbal reported two cases each, and Anantnag reported one case.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 10 cases, Samba nine cases, Kishtwar four cases, Dod and Poonch reported two cases each, and Rajouri one case.

Currently there are 966 active cases of the disease in J&K — 720 in Kashmir and 246 in Jammu division — while the number of recoveries has reached 4,72,472, the officials said. This also includes 210 COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals — 174 from Kashmir and 36 from Jammu division – in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

Officials also informed that 10,805 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across Jammu and Kashmir bringing the cumulative number of doses administered till date to 2,43,57,096 till date.

India logs more than 7,000 new COVID infections, 25 deaths

With 7,219 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,44,49,726, while the active cases declined to 56,745, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The overall COVID death toll rose to 5,27,965 with 33 fatalities in the last 24 hours, which includes eight deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.13 percent of the total infections.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.68 percent, the health ministry said.

A decline of 2,465 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.98 percent and the weekly at 2.42 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the infection surged to 4,38,65,016, while the case fatality rate  was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 213.01 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The 25 new fatalities include six from Maharashtra, three from Kerala, two each from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
