Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 140 fresh positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours which pushed the cumulative infection tally to 4,77,784, officials informed Wednesday.

They said 115 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir 25 from Jammu division, even as 240 COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals, including 193 from Kashmir and 47 from Jammu division in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 36 cases, Anantnag reported 19 cases, Baramulla reported 18 cases, Budgam 14 cases, Pulwama reported 10 cases, Ganderbal reported seven cases, Kupwara reported five cases, Bandipora and Kulgam three cases each while Shopian also reported no fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 21 cases, Udhampur three and Doda one case; no other district reported any fresh cases today.

Officials also informed that 16,254 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across Jammu and Kashmir bringing the cumulative number of doses administered till date to 2,43,10,910.

Currently there are 1,091 active positive cases in J&K, including 853 in Kashmir and 238 in Jammu division, officials said. So far, cumulatively 4,71,911 persons have recovered from the disease while 4,782 have died – 2,432 in Kashmir division and 2,350 in Jammu division.

India’s active COVID-19 case count drops to 64,667

With 7,231 new infections being reported in a day, India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 4,44,28,393, while the number of active cases came down to 64,667, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The toll from the pandemic climbed to 5,27,874 after 45 more fatalities were recorded. The figure includes 10 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.15 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.67 percent, the ministry said.

A drop of 1,065 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 case count in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.05 percent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.55 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,38,35,852, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 212.39 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 35 new fatalities include eight from Maharashtra, five each from Delhi and Karnataka, three from Punjab, two each from Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and one each from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Odisha, Sikkim and West Bengal.
