Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 259 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,76,932 while two fresh deaths due to the coronavirus were also reported, officials said here.

Of the fresh cases, they said 188 cases were reported from Kashmir valley and 41 from Jammu division.

Providing district-wise break-up of these cases, the officials said that in Kashmir valley, Srinagar district reported 61 cases, Budgam 31 cases, Baramulla reported 30 cases, Kulgam reported 19 cases, Anantnag reported 15 cases, Kupwara reported 14 cases, Pulwama reported seven cases, Ganderbal reported five cases, Bandipora reported four cases and Shopian reported two fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu reported 22 cases, Samba seven, Udhampur four, Kathua and Ramban three cases each, while one case each was reported from Doda and Poonch.

The death toll due to the virus was 4,781 as two fresh deaths were reported from the Jammu division, the officials said. So far the viral infection has claimed 2,432 lives in Kashmir while 2,349 persons have succumbed in Jammu division.

Currently there are 2001 active cases of the disease in the union territory – 1,669 in Kashmir and 332 in Jammu division, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,70,150, the officials said. They said this also includes 395 people, including 304 in Kashmir and 91 in Jammu, who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

The officials said so far J&K has recorded 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).

They also informed that 23,355 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across Jammu and Kashmir bringing the cumulative number of doses administered in the UT till date to 2,41,94,226.

Meanwhile  India logged 10,725 new coroanvirus infections taking the total tally of cases to 4,43,78,920, while the active cases declined to 94,047, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll climbed to 5,27,488 with 36 fatalities which includes five deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.21 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.60 percent, the ministry said.

A decline of 2,395 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.73 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.20 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,37,57,385, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 210.82 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 31 new fatalities include six from Delhi, five from Maharashtra, three each from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, two each from Haryana, Odisha and Punjab and one each from Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
