Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 418 fresh Covid cases on Wednesday that took the cumulative infection tally to 4,74,690, officials said.

Of the new cases, 328 were reported from the Kashmir valley and 90 from Jammu division, they said.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 116 cases, Kupwara reported 74 cases, Baramulla reported 52 cases, Budgam 47 cases, Ganderbal reported 14 cases, Pulwama and Kulgam reported seven cases each, Anantnag and Bandipora reported five cases each while Shopian reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Kishtwar reported 10 cases, Udhampur reported seven cases, Jammu, Doda and Kathua districts reported five cases each, Rajouri and Ramban four cases each, and Poonch reported one fresh case today.

The death toll stands at 4,779 as no fresh fatality was reported, officials said. So far the disease has claimed 4,779 lives in J&K, including 2,432 in Kashmir and 2,347 in Jammu.

Currently there are 3,466 active cases in the UT — 2,912 in Kashmir and 554 in Jammu division, while the overall recoveries have reached 4,66,445, they said. This also includes 709 persons who were discharged from various hospitals — 596 in Kashmir and 113 in Jammu — in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

So far J&K has recorded 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus), they added.

9,062 fresh COVID-19 cases in India

India on Wednesday recorded 9,062 fresh COVID-19 infections that took its tally to 4,42,86,256, while the number of active cases came down to 1,05,058, according to Union health ministry data.

The death toll climbed to 5,27,134 with 36 new fatalities, including six reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.24 percent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.57 percent, the ministry said.

A decline of 6,194 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.49 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.38 percent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,36,54,064, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent, it said.

So far, 208.57 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive, it added.

The 30 new fatalities include six from Punjab; five from Karnataka; three each from Delhi and Rajasthan; two each from Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand; and one each from Chandigarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Ladakh, Odisha, Sikkim and West Bengal.
