Independence Day passes off peacefully in J&K

Srinagar: Unlike previous years, the mobile internet and cellular services remained unaffected on Monday on the occasion of 76th Independence Day while the day passed off peacefully amid the adequate security arrangements across J&K.

Amid heightened security arrangements, the 76th Independence Day passed off peacefully while the main function was held at SK Stadium today where the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha hoisted the tricolour.

The mobile internet and cellular services remained uninterrupted throughout the day.

Officials said that elaborate security arrangements were put in place by the authorities to ensure smooth conduct of the main I-Day functions.

Witnesses said that adequate policeman and security personnel were deployed on the roads today while the roads leading to the venue of functions were sealed till the culmination of the programme.

Colorful celebrations were held all over the UT and Tiranga was hoisted and saluted at almost all educational institutions and government offices.

Reports said that the entire UT wore a festive look despite rain showers.
