Agri deptt endeavouring to utilize departmental farms to attain self-reliance in seed requirement: Iqbal

BARAMULLA: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today visited Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF) Tappar, Kreeri in Baramulla to inspect different blocks of the farm and take stock of different Agriculture activities.

Addressing the staff and technical experts of Tappar Farm, the Director said that the Department is implementing a prestigious initiative and is endeavouring to optimize the utility of Departmental farms to attain self-reliance in the field of seed requirement for the Kashmir Division.

He said that the Department has already fixed benchmarks and targets for every departmental farm in the valley so far as the production of different agricultural crops (seeds) is concerned.

After visiting different farms in recent times, the Director said that he is satisfied and optimistic that the department could achieve those targets in an effective, comprehensive manner. He also highlighted the importance of departmental farms and said these farms are the source of revenue, and employment generation.

Director appreciated the efforts of the concerned technical experts and officers and asked them to work with close coordination so that the Farms could achieve new heights in the years to come. He also appreciated the officer Incharge of the Farm for executing the approved plan in letter and spirit and lauded their role in satisfactory crop stand.

Director Agriculture was accompanied by Divisional Seed Certification Officer Kashmir Sheikh Imran and other senior officers of the Department.
