DC Sgr inspects progress on rejuvenation of Sarband Water Reservoir

SRINAGAR: Continuing the endeavour to bring Administration to the doorsteps of people to address their issues, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Wednesday visited Gandtal Panchayat Halqa, a hilly area in Harwan Block of the District, to have first-hand appraisal of the public issues under Public Grievance Redressal Camp as part of weekly Block Diwas.

Besides, Chairman, District Development Council, Srinagar, Malik Aftab Ahmad, other DDC members including Shabbir Reshi, Haji Ali and other PRIs were present on the occasion.

During the programme, scores of delegations from Syedpora, Fakir Gujri, Gandtal, Danihama, Chanpora, Mulnar, Waniham, Marinder Bagh and other adjoining areas apprised the DC about the issues confronting them including augmentation of water supply, posting of BDO, repairs/macadamization of roads and lanes/by lanes, restoration of a water fountain at Dachigam, augmentation of electric substation at filtration plant, dredging of irrigation canal, upgradation of the road at Theed, deployment of Driver for Health Centre, Harwan, construction of retaining wall at Fakir Gujri, providing of solar lights and ATM facility, blacktopping of the road from Dara to Nagbal, completion of Danihama bridge and making youth clubs functional.

The issue regarding the transfer of roads between R&B and SMC was also highlighted to ensure proper maintenance of the roads besides ensuring timely Snow clearance measures during winters.

The DC after giving a patient hearing to the grievances and demands of the public sought the on-spot response from the concerned District Officers present during the Grievance Redressal Camp. He also assured them that all genuine demands and issues projected by them will be taken up with concerned authorities on priority.

He also gave on-the-spot directions to the concerned officers for time-bound redressal of public issues.

Addressing the gathering, the DC asked the educated unemployed youth to come forward and take benefit from different Government self-employment schemes to earn a dignified livelihood.

DDC, Chairman, Malik Aftab Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.

While Career and Counselling officer, Employment Department, Manzoor Ahmad gave awareness about the different youth-oriented schemes including MUMKIN, TEJASWINI, SEI (Spurring Entrepreneurship Initiative), and other job-oriented schemes for providing employment opportunities to the local youth through different Self-employment schemes. He stressed the unemployed educated youth to take advantage of these livelihood generation schemes to become self-reliant and provide employment to others.

Later, the DC also visited Water Conservation Reservoir Sarband near Dachigam National Park Harwan to inspect the progress of works undertaken for its restoration and rejuvenation.

On the occasion, the DC was informed that restoration work on the historic Sarband Water Conservation Reservoir is nearing completion. He was also informed that the storage capacity of the Sarband has been upgraded to 215000 cum from the existing capacity of 42700 cum.

With regard to the development of the surroundings of the Sarband, the DC directed the Engineers of I&FC to expedite the work on war footing to develop the patch of land along the Reservoir. He also asked them to construct a pedestrian route to provide smooth movement between the banks and the sarband to enhance the natural beauty around the Sarband to make it a piece of attraction.

During the visit, the DC also inspected the Primary Health centre (PHC) Darbagh and took stock of its functioning. He stressed upon the staff of the PHC to work with added zeal and dedication to ensure better first aid facilities for the locals.
