Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday reported 796 fresh COVID-19 cases that took the cumulative infection tally to 4,69,041, officials here said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 4,776, they said.

While 660 fresh cases were reported from the Kashmir valley, 136 were reported from the Jammu division, the officials said.

Providing district-wise breakup for today’s positive cases, officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar district reported 219 cases, Baramulla reported 194 cases, Budgam 81 cases, Kupwara reported 66 cases, Anantnag reported 41 cases, Kulgam reported 29 cases, Bandipora reported 16 cases, Pulwama reported seven cases, Ganderbal reported four cases, and Shopian reported three fresh cases.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu reported 52 cases, Doda 23, Ramban 16, Udhampur 12, Rajouri 11, Kishtwar 10, Kathua five , Samba four, Poonch two and Reasi reported one fresh case.

Currently there are 5,261 active COVID-19 cases in the union territory — 3,904 in Kashmir and 1,357 in Jammu division, they said.

So far, 4,59,004 people have recovered from the viral disease, they said, adding this also includes 668 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals, including 463 from Kashmir and 205 from Jammu division, in the last 24 hours after their recuperation. 

So far 4,776 persons have succumbed to the disease in J&K – 2,430 in Kashmir and 2,346 in Jammu division.

 

India records 19,400 new cases of COVID-19

New Delhi, Aug 06 (PTI) With 19,406 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,41,26,994, while active cases declined to 1,34,793, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,26,649 with 49 new fatalities, including 11 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.31 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 percent, the ministry said.

A decrease of 571 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.96 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 4.63 percent, it said.

The number of recoveries surged to 4,34,65,552, while the case fatality rate 1.19 percent.

Among the fatalities, five each were reported from Maharashtra and West Bengal, three from Chhattisgarh, two each from Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Tripura, and one each from Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Additionally, 11 deaths have been reconciled by Kerala as per Indian Council of Medical Research guidelines.

Of the 5,26,649 deaths reported so far, 1,48,129 are from Maharashtra, 70,548 from Kerala, 40,155 from Karnataka, 38,033 from Tamil Nadu, 26,327 from Delhi, 23,574 from Uttar Pradesh and 21,389 from  West Bengal.

On Friday, 70 deaths were reported. These included  26 deaths reconciled by Kerala.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 percent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),” the ministry said on its website, adding that statewise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.

According to the ministry, 205.92 crore doses against Covid have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
