Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday reiterated that it will continue its fight using all peaceful, legal, and democratic means to reverse all Aug 05, 2019, “unconstitutional decisions”.

In a joint statement, all top party functionaries and MPs said the day will always be remembered as a day ‘when the rights and dignity of people of J&K were illegally snatched away following the unilateral, and unconstitutional abrogation of Articles 370, 35 A’.

“The day”, they said, “marks the unceremonious breaching of sacred commitments made to the people of J&K in order to uphold the political agenda of BJP and the RSS.”

“Articles 370, 35-A,” the leaders said, “were the manifestation of the solemn commitments made by New Delhi to the people of J&K. The undue decisions, the leaders said, have added to the long-prevailing political instability and alienation in the region.”
“The decisions of August 5, 2019,” they further said, “violated the spirit of the country’s federalism.”

The leaders requested the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to constitute the bench to begin hearings on the matter.

“Hon’ble Chief Justice had committed to doing this as soon as the summer break ended. That has happened a few weeks ago, we hope the honorable CJ will convene the bench and start hearings in the matter,” they added.

Meanwhile, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone in a statement said that the people of J&K have not accepted center’s August 5, 2019 decision, nor will they accept it in future.

Criticizing the center for bragging about development in Jammu and Kashmir, he said: “I didn’t see any development on the ground as J&K is governed by bureaucrats and officers while development is done by people.  J&K has been disempowered as people have not accepted center’s August 5, 2019 decision, nor do they accept it in future, but they did not come on the roads, I think it was a right decision as they (government) enjoy killing people”.

He said that people of J&K haven’t surrendered and their silence should not be misconstrued with acknowledgement to removal of Article 370.

Sajad Lone demands Mirwaiz’s release

MAJID KAPRA

SRINAGAR. Aug 04: Coming out in support of incarcerated chairman of moderate Hurriyat faction, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman Sajad Lone Wednesday pitched for his immediate release saying Mirwaiz is the only ‘moderate hope’ between ‘radicals’ and those supporting peace.

Heaping praises on his moderate character, Lone said Mirwaiz being victim of violence himself has never spoken a word that encourages violence. He said Mirwaiz is the son of a great Islamic leader, late Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq, who he claimed became the victim of violence.

“We may differ with Mirwaiz on political front, but he is our religious leader, he is chief cleric (Mirwaiz) of Kashmir which cannot be denied at all. Mirwaiz being a victim of violence himself has never spoken a word that encourages violence. He is the only moderate hope between radicals and moderates,” Lone said while talking to the media at his office here.

He appealed to the Union Home Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to order immediate release of Mirwaiz who he said has been placed under house detention for the last four years.

“He (Mirwaiz) cannot move out of his house, he cannot discharge his religious duties and advocate moderate teachings of Islam.  I have humbly appealed to the Union Home Minister and Lt Governor of J&K to see why Mirwaiz was detained. He is the son of a great Islamic leader who was martyred in the early 90’s. This is the matter of our religion and not politics. How could he be detained for so long,” he added.
