Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 779 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, raising the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,67,422, officials said.

One coronavirus-related death was also reported from Jammu region that pushed the toll 4,774, they said.

Of the fresh cases, 637 were reported from the Kashmir Valley and 142 from the Jammu division, the officials said.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive, officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar district reported 248 cases, Baramulla reported 156 cases, Budgam 80 cases, Kupwara reported 45 cases, Anantnag reported 40 cases, Kulgam reported 23 cases, Bandipora reported 22 cases, Pulwama reported 15 cases, Ganderbal reported six cases, and Shopian reported two fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 59 cases, Doda 18, Kishtwar 15, Ramban and Kathua 11 cases each, Udhampur 10, Poonch seven, Rajouri and Samba five cases each, and Reasi reported one case.

Moreover, 727 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals — 430 from Kashmir and 297 from Jammu division – in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

Currently there are 3,508 active positive cases in Kashmir Valley and 1,483 in Jammu division. 

So far COVID-19 has claimed 4,774 lives in J&K. Of these Kashmir division accounts for 2,429 deaths while 2,345 persons have succumbed to the infection in Jammu division. 

 

 

India records 53 new COVID fatalities

New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) With 19,893 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,40,87,037, while the active cases  dipped to 1,36,478, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll climbed to 5,26,530 with 53 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.31 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 percent, the ministry said.

A decrease of 579 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.  

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.94 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.64 per cent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,34,24,029, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent. 

According to the ministry, 205.22 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. 

The 53 new fatalities include seven from Maharashtra, five from Delhi, four each from Assam, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal, three each from Punjab and Uttarakhand, two from Karnataka and one each from Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Additionally, 15 deaths are reconciled by Kerala as per guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research.
