Srinagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested a Tehsildar and his clerk for demanding and accepting bribe for issuance of revenue records.

An ACB spokesman said that it received a complaint that the Tehsildar Panthachowk, Majid Choudhary, and his clerk Peer Waseem Ahmad were demanding Rs 1.61 lakhs as bribe for issuing the revenue records in favour of the complainant.

After registering a case (FIR No. 32/2022 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 r/w 120-B IPC) at Police Station ACB Srinagar, a trap team constituted, which caught the Accused Tehsildar and his clerk red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 1.20 Lakh from the complainant.

They were arrested on the spot while the official vehicle (JK01AL-8277) used by the duo for accepting bribe was also seized, ACB spokesman said.

He said the bribe money was also recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses. 

Subsequently, searches were carried out at different locations associated with the accused(s) and further investigation into the case is going on.

Later the accused Tehsildar was produced before the Special Judge Anti Corruption Srinagar, C.L Boleria, who remanded him to ACB custody for six days as the probe agency had sought him for the custodial interrogation, local news agency KNO reported.
