PD&SJ Baramulla chairs Under-Trial Review Committee meet

BARAMULLA: Acting upon the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the Principal District and Sessions Judge (PD&SJ) Baramulla, Mohammad Yousuf Wani today chaired a special Under-Trials Review Committee meeting to take a holistic review of Under-Trial cases.

The meeting was convened as part of the ambitious “Release UTRC@75” campaign launched by the National Legal Services Authority of India, to commemorate the 75th Independence Day in India.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Sehrish Asghar; SSP Baramulla, Rayees Mohammed Bhat; Secretary DLSA, Fariqa Nazir; Superintendent District Jail Baramulla, Barkat Ali; Public Prosecutor Baramulla, Nazir Ahmad Naikoo among other concerned authorities attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the cases of under-trial prisoners lodged in different Jails in the District, as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court. The cases of the under-trials falling under the specified categories were also comprehensively discussed.

The preliminary exercise was made in respect of the cases of under-trial women prisoners, sick prisoners who require specialized medical treatment and the prisoners who are above 65 years of age.

Meanwhile, the chairman also reviewed the availability of basic necessities in the district Jail which includes the availability of uninterrupted drinking water, electricity, medical facilities etc. wherein he emphasized for providing all basic necessities in a hassle-free and smooth manner. 

Furthermore, the committee recommended that Chief Medical Officer Baramulla shall post a female MPHW/Nurse with the medical unit of the District Jail Baramulla besides a Medical Officer, who shall remain available in the Jail.
