J&K records 531 new Covid-19 cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir continued to see a substantial rise in COVID-19 cases with 531 more infections being reported on Friday, raising the cumulative infection tally to 4,58,987, officials said.

Of the new cases, 288 were reported from the Jammu division and 243 from the Kashmir Valley, they said.

Providing district-wise break-up of these positive cases, they said that Srinagar reported 162 cases, Jammu district reported 152 cases, Kathua reported 55 cases, Baramulla reported 30 cases, Udhampur reported 21 cases, Ganderbal reported 18 cases, Poonch reported 16 cases, Kishtwar reported 15 cases, Budgam reported 12 cases, Pulwama and Rajouri reported 10 cases each, Doda  and Samba reported nine cases each, Kupwara reported four cases, Bandipora reported three cases, Anantnag and Kulgam reported two cases each,  and Reasi reported one case.

The death toll due to the pandemic stood at 4,761, and no fresh fatality was reported from the union territory in the past 24 hours, the officials said. So far the disease has claimed 2,425 lives in Kashmir division while 2,336 persons have died in the Jammu division.

Currently there are 2,411 active cases in J&K, including 1349 in Jammu division and 1062 in Kashmir while the cumulative number of recoveries has reached 4,51,815, they said. This also includes 197 persons — including 115 from Jammu division and 82 from Kashmir division — who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation, officials said.

India logs 60 new Covid fatalities

India saw a single day rise of 21,880 coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,38,47,065, while the active cases rose to 1,49,482, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll climbed to 5,25,930 with 60 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.34 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.46 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 601 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.42 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.51 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,31,71,653 and the case fatality rate was 1.20 percent.

According to the ministry, 201.30 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 60 new fatalities include 22 from Kerala, seven from Chhattisgarh, six each from Maharashtra and West Bengal, three from Himachal Pradesh, two each from Assam, Gujarat, Manipur, Meghalaya and one each from Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
