J&K logs 434 new Covid cases; one death

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir continued to see substantial rise in new Covid cases as 434 fresh infections were reported on Wednesday, while one more person died due to the viral disease, officials said.

The infection tally in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 4,57,951 while the death toll stands at 4,761, including one fresh death reported from Jammu division in the last 24 hours, they said. So far the viral disease has claimed 2,425 lives in Kashmir division and 2,336 in Jammu division.

Of the new cases, 248 were reported from Jammu and 186 from Kashmir, officials said.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases for today, they informed that Jammu district reported 154 cases,  Srinagar reported 147 cases, Udhampur reported 19 cases, Baramulla reported 16 cases, Budgam reported 11 cases,  Ganderbal reported three cases, Kathua reported 31 cases, Doda and Ramban reported nine cases each, Rajouri, Samba and Kishtwar reported six cases each, Bandipora and Pulwama reported two cases each, Kupwara reported four cases, and Shopian reported one case.

Currently there are 1,724 active cases of the disease in the Union Territory — 996 in Jammu division and 728 in Kashmir — while the number of recoveries has reached 4,51,466, officials said, adding this includes 111 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals  in the last 24 hours after their recuperation, including 59 from Kashmir division and 52 from Jammu division.

There are 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).

Amid the spike in new cases, the Union Territory administration has made wearing of face masks mandatory in Jammu district, officials said.

On Tuesday, face masks were made compulsory in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Ramban districts in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, they said.

Active Covid cases in country rise to 1,45,654

India added 20,557 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,38,03,619, while the active cases increased to 1,45,654, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The death toll climbed to 5,25,825 with 40 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.33 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.47 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 2000 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.13 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.64 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,31,32,140 and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 percent.

According to the ministry, 200.61 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 40 new fatalities include 11 from Kerala, six each from West Bengal and Maharashtra, four from Punjab, three from Sikkim, two from Delhi and one each from Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Odisha and Rajasthan.
