Srinagar-Leh highway blocked as flashfloods hit Kullan near Kangan, restored

Ganderbal: As the rains lashed Kashmir Valley Tuesday morning, flashfloods triggered by possible cloudburst in the upper reaches occurred in Kullan area of Kangan in Ganderbal district on Tuesday blocking the Srinagar-Leh highway for traffic.

Besides blocking the highway, floodwaters entered into some nearby houses, however there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

Srinagar-Leh highway was blocked from either sides and hundreds of vehicles carrying Amarnath Yatris two were stranded, reports said.

Officials said that Beacon has pressed its men and machinery to clear the road.

Meanwhile officials said that one-way traffic was restored on the highway.

“With the efforts of District administration, Ganderbal Police, SDRF, army and BRO the debris was removed and one-way traffic movement was restored on the highway,” the officials said.
