Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that five terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT were arrested from Srinagar and Sopore and incriminating materials, arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession.

A police spokesman said that based on specific input regarding movement of terrorists in the district, Srinagar Police laid special checkpoints at various locations.

“On one such checkpoint laid by Police & 50RR on Sanat Nagar Chowk-Rangreth road area, one hybrid terrorist was arrested. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including a pistol was recovered from his possession,” the spokesman said.

He said that on the disclosure of the arrested terrorist, an anti-terrorist operation was launched in Pampore area, during which one more hybrid terrorist was arrested and three pistols were recovered from his possession.

The duo has been identified as Naveed Shafi wani son of Mohd Shafi Wani resident of Shar Shali Khrew Pampore and Faizan Rashid Teli son of Abdul Rashid Teli resident of Kadlabal Pampore.

The spokesman said that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested duo was involved in transportation of terrorists, arms/explosive material & providing logistic support to the terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in district Srinagar before as well.

“Moreover, 06 Pistol magazines, 11 Pistol rounds, 01 Grenade, 16 Gelatin super power sticks, Cortex wire (6 mts approx), 08 Detonators have been recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman, adding, a case vide FIR No. 71/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Saddar and further investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that three terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested by security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district.

He said that on a specific input regarding movement of militants, a joint naka was established at 06:40 PM by Sopore police, 52 RR, 177BN CRPF at Takyabal Krankshivan jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo.

“During checking, a suspicious movement of three persons was observed who were coming from Dharnambal towards Takyabal and on seeing the naka party, they tried to flee from the spot but the security forces apprehended them tactfully,” said the spokesman.

He further said that during thir frisking, two pistols, two magazines, 10 pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one AK-47 rifle were recovered from their possession.

During questioning, the spokesman said, they revealed their identity as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie of Amargarh, Amir Shafqat Mir, son of Mohammad Shafi Mir of Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh, son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh of Baag e Rehmat Sopore.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals are uncategorized terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who were planning to attack security forces and civilians,” said the spokesman, adding, a case under relevant sections has been lodged at Police Station Tarzoo while the further investigation is still going on.
