SRINAGAR: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today chaired a meeting to review the progress on collaboration between Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Lamrin Tech Skills University (LTSU) for the development of skill institutes across J&K.

The meeting was attended by Chancellor, LTSU, Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura; Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, Rohit Kansal; Principal Secretary SDD, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon; Mission Director Skill Development Mission, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary; Advisor and Head Innovation Centre of Excellence, IBM India Ltd, Sanjiv Mehta; Director SDD, J&K, Director Health Services Kashmir, representatives of Industries and Commerce department, Principals of Polytechnic Colleges and Superintendents of ITIs, representatives of FICCI, CII, among others.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on developing the Technical education sector across J&K by developing a through and common understanding with the management of LTSU.

Speaking during the meeting, Advisor Bhatnagar said that the collaboration between the LTSU and J&K SDD is of vital importance as the UT is witnessing remarkable transformation in terms of development and in coming years the region will need a large chunk of skilled manpower. He added that the new Industrial Policy has paved the way for development of entire J&K and some leading industrialists are going to establish their business ventures here.

While speaking on the vitality of the collaboration with LTSU, Advisor Bhatnagar asked the management of the University to conduct an in-depth analysis of local scenario here. He suggested them to  focus on IT sector here also as the region possesses a lot of scope in this sector.

Remarking that J&K is the Land of opportunities, Advisor Bhatnagar  asked the management of the University to explore the possibilities in other sectors like Tourism, Hydropower, Construction and others so that youth can be imparted high-end skills and maximum employment avenues are created for them. The Advisor also asked the LTSU representatives to explore the possibilities of upskilling the paramedical staff here as the region has witnessed significant milestones in health sector in last couple of years and there is an ample need of upskilling of same.

Highlighting about maintaining close coordination and synergy between the department and LTSU, Advisor Bhatnagar delved upon the officers of SDD and representatives of University to prepare a line of action plan so that the fruits of this collaboration are reaped to its maximum. He also asked them to work in tandem and prepare a plan for revision of curriculum in the Skill institutes across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Advisor also asked the university management to align that curriculum with the best in practice across the country so that the youth of J&K are skilled as per the contemporary industrial ecosystem.

Speaking during the meeting, Chancellor LTSU said that the university will provide all possible support and technical expertise to the J&K Government and will facilitate the students of Skill institutes of J&K for getting placements across the country as well as abroad.

Speaking during the meeting, Principal Secretary HED said that this collaboration between UT of J&K and LTSU is a significant concept which will certainly develop the skill training ecosystem here.

Kansal suggested the management of University to consult the NEP-2020 for developing the skill vourses here as the NEP has given lot of focus on developing Skill training institutes. He further asked them develop a course having some employability avenues in it for the normal graduates of J&K colleges.

During the meet, the LTSU management gave a detailed presentation on the collaboration between the SDD and LTSU.

They informed the meeting that the University is running a Project Harvest for Harnessing All round development through Vocation Education and Skill Training. They highlighted that through this project, employability enhancement, industry development and Socio-economic development can be harvested. 

The University management also informed the meeting that under Project Harvest, the University will collaborate with J&K Government to support local Industry MSME’s & SSME’s to improve their technology, skills & quality, market access etc. Support J&K in making UT as preferred destination for R&D HUB in EV, IT, design & simulation etc. It will also sponsor Industry in short term and long term skill programs for Jammu & Kashmir students.

The University will also help J&K in Strengthening of  Polytechnics and ITIs by supporting Industry focused content, Infrastructure Development and Training of Instructors as well as promote start-up culture across J&K.
