Srinagar: Police on Friday said it has arrested two drug-peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Sopore and Bandipora.
In Sopore, police arrested Nasir Akbar Wani, son of Muhammad Akbar Wani, resident of Tujjar Shareef Sopore at a checkpoint and recovered 105 grams of “Charas-like substance” from him.
In Bandipora, a police party intercepted two suspicious persons, who on seeing the police party tried to escape from the spot. One of them identified as Mohmmad Shafi Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora, was arrested while the other person identified as Mohmad Ashraf Sheikh, also a resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora managed to escape from the spot, police said.
During the search, 70 grams of ‘Charas’ (cannabis), four bottles of illicit liquor and three Beer bottles were recovered from his possession, police said. The accused has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
