Srinagar: Four terrorists were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Pulwama and Baramulla districts on Tuesday, police said.

One of the killed terrorist was involved in the murder of Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad, police said.

In Pulwama, acting on specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in village Tujjan, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police along with the troops of Army 53RR and CRPF 183Bn in the area.

During the search operation, as the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, “the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” a police spokesman said.

He said in the ensuing encounter, two terrorists of proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.

The slain militants were identified as Abid Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Barpora Pulwama, and Majid Nazir Wani, resident of Banpora Ladoo Pampore.

“As per police records, both the killed terrorists were part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities,” police spokesman said.

He said Majid Nazir Wani was also involved in the killing of Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad.

Incriminating materials, a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

Giving details of the encounter in north Kashmir, police spokesman said that based on specific input generated by police regarding presence of terrorists in Tulibal area of Sopore, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police and Army’s 52RR and CRPF in the said area.

During the search operation, terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists of proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.

The slain terrorists were identified as Zahid Ahmad Chopan, resident of Tengwani Shopian, and Mohammad Youns Gul, resident of Washbugh Pulwama,” spokesman said.

As per police records, spokesman said “both the killed terrorists had joined terror folds recently”.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two AK-47 rifles and four magazines have been recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint teams for carrying out the operations in “professional manner without any collateral damage”.

He also appreciated the joint team “for tracking and neutralizing the terrorist involved in the recent killing of police officer in Pulwama,” police spokesman said.

He said police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated with regard to both encounters.

“People are requested to cooperate with Police till the areas are completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any,” spokesman said.
