Srinagar: A first-of-its-kind Sports Mega event was organized to rejuvenate the Sports Culture of Sopore region, wherein a three-day-long Athletics-based Sports Carnival was organized for the people of higher reaches of Zaingair region, Sopore, Baramulla & Bandipora District.
“The entire sports event was conducted at Pethabug, Sports ground by Zaingair Youth Sports Committee under the stewardship of Army Camp, Sopore. Zaingair Youth Sports Carnival was organised with an aim to boost sports culture in the region and revitalize rural games,” said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.
“The Zaingair Sports Carnival has set a benchmark in true sense of a word wherein 10 x sports & 28 youth associations came together to make this carnival a historic moment,” the PRO said.
“On the first day of the carnival, DC Baramulla inaugurated the Zaingair Youth Sports Carnival and opening ceremony was held with lighting of Flame and sports event continued in corporation with Sports Association, Zaingair,” he said.
The PRO further said: “On the second day, all track events for qualifiers were conducted and team events conducted on a Knockouts basis. The last and final day of the carnival witnessed the finals of the events along with cultural program presented by Jhelum Voice & Shah-I-Hamdan Sports Academy, Sopore. Towards the end, the participants and the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest.”
“Master Amir Mir, 1st position, Master Wahid Mir, 2nd Position and Miss Snobar Samnder 3rd position were declared overall winners of the Sports event. They were awarded with medals and other attractive prizes. After the distribution of prizes Major General SS Slaria, General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Kilo Force, Chief guest of the final day of Sports Mega Event addressed and congratulated all the participants for the sportsmanship and talent exhibited during the event,” he said.
“The Chief Guest also applauded impeccable initiative of local sports bodies and AWAM for their unconditional support to make the pioneering effort a thumping success. The Chief Guest requested local administration to provide adequate sports facilities to the people of Zangair. The event was attended by various Military and Civil dignitaries including Udaya Bhaskar Billa, DIG North Kashmir, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, DC Baramulla, Shabir Nawab, SSP, Sopore and Sports personalities Arif Khan (Skier, Winter Olympian), Iqra Rasool (Cricketer), Manan Wani (Cyclist), Miss Tajamul Islam (Kickboxing), Raunak Riyaz (Martial Artist), and other eminent locals,” the PRO said.
“The success of the sports carnival is reflective of the Government intention to ensure that no part of Khoobsurat Kashmir is left out of the ambit of development. This historic moment is a harbinger of change for the region,” he added.
