Employers to ensure welfare, safety of labourers: Div Com Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Register organised, unorganized local and non-local workers under centrally sponsored beneficiary schemes including Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandan Yojna and E-Shram directed Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole to Officers of Labour Department here today.

The Div Com issued these directions while chairing a meeting on Labour oriented schemes. He stressed that the benefit shall reach the workers in brick kilns, industrial estates and development projects of various departments.

He said labourers working in brick kilns, industrial estates and construction sites should be provided all facilities including drinking water, electricity and toilet facilities.

The Div Com issued directions for employers to ensure safety and security of workers and asked them to hire private security guards to protect workers. Besides, he directed them to ensure the welfare of workers.

He also asked them that the area of work should be protected by wires or tin wall.

Div Com exhorted officers to install grievance boxes at the locations and keep first aid available.

He asked officers to check that payments to labourers are not withheld by employers and remuneration is paid on time.

The meeting was attended by officers from Rural development, Tourism, Industries and Commerce, Handicrafts & Handloom, Labour, PWD KPDCL, PHE, I&FC, JKPCC and other departments.

Earlier, Deputy Labour Commissioner Kashmir gave a presentation on the beneficiary schemes offered by the Department and procedure of registration of workers.
