Director Tourism stresses on promoting rural tourism in Kashmir

Srinagar: In an effort to further enhance the tourism potential of various destinations and scale-up livelihood opportunities in the tourism sector and evolve perspective planning for the same, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo today held an interactive session with tourism stakeholders and representatives of various concerned Departments.

During the meeting, the Director Tourism laid stress on promoting rural tourism with the involvement of local communities thereby creating employment opportunities for local youth. This, he said, has to be achieved while enhancing the tourism potential of various destinations by devising perspective plans involving tourism stakeholders and local communities alike.

Dr. Itoo said since tourism is heavily dependent on the environment and ecology there is a dire need to promote responsible tourism to make it sustainable tourism by saving the environment.

During the discussions, the Director Tourism sought suggestions and the involvement of stakeholders in promoting these concepts to promote tourism in a responsible way.

Stakeholders from different segments of the tourism sector and officers of various concerned Departments were present at the meeting.
