Srinagar: The District Magistrate (DM) Shopian today ordered a magisterial enquiry in today’s firing incident at Turkawangam in district Shopian in which a civilian got killed.

As per an official handout issued here the magisterial enquiry shall be conducted by Additional District Magistrate, Shopian.

It was given out that the enquiry shall be completed in a given time frame and suitable action under law shall be taken.

It may be mentioned here that a civilian was killed in a firing incident in Turkawangam area of district Shopian.

Police said that the civilian was killed during an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists.

“Terrorist fired upon joint patrol party of CRPF-182Bn/SOG of Pulwama near the bridge connecting Litter Pulwama with Turkwangam, Shopian. During exchange of fire between terrorist & our joint team,01civilian namely Shoib Ah Ganie S/O Gh Mohd R/O Turkwangam,Shopian got injured.

“He was referred to District Hospital, #Pulwama for treatment where he #succumbed to injuries. #Terrorists after brief chance #encounter managed to slip into nearby orchards. Search is still going on. Case has been registered and investigated taken up,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

However, locals held a protest against the killing, alleging that Ganai was shot dead by the security forces.

According to the locals, the security forces were looking for somebody and during the searches, Ganai raised his both arms for security check but they fired at him.

Condemning the civilian’s killing, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami asked the authorities to order a credible probe so that guilty is identified and brought to book.

He said people of the area are not satisfied with the government version.
